Architects’ Studio, Clerkenwell, London

CZWG Architects contacted us to find a solution for their studio, which has large sloping windows above the double-height office space - these were causing issues for staff, with the glare making it difficult to see computer screens and the expanse of glass causing the space to overheat in summer. The height was a particular problem, as the client was keen to avoid having to motorise the blinds to keep costs down, but we overcame this with a solution of cord-operated Pinoleum Roman blinds. These run on tensioned wires to hold them at the correct angle, dropping under gravity and being drawn up by pulling cords, which were routed down to within reach of the lower floor.

The Pinoleum woven wood fabric allows some vision through the blinds, to avoid the studio feeling too closed in with the blinds drawn, whilst shading the space with a contemporary relaxed aesthetic.
